What are Lumineers?

Lumineers are a painless, safe cosmetic solution for the people have disfigured teeth. As compared to the standard veneers – which may take long months to be placed, lumineers on the other can be placed in no time at all and that too without the use of anesthesia. Lumineers are ultra-thin and ably imitate the appearance of enamel. Another reason lumineers are so popular is because they are durable and can last for as long as 20 years.

Definition
By definition, lumineers are basically a kind of a dental veneer made from ultra-thin and lasting Cerinate porcelain to repair teeth either to improve teeth shape/brightness or for as protective coating. They’re used for filling gaps between teeth, on stained or discolored teeth, or to redo damaged teeth. The end-result of the procedure gives back the power to people to smile again with aplomb.

Lumineers The Procedure

After you have consulted with your dentist, the procedure to place lumineers is a simple one. At first a mapping of your teeth structure will be done using CEREC-technology. Thereafter a mutual decision between you and the dentist will help finalize the fabrication of the lumineers. The specifications are then sent to the dental-technician who customizes your lumineers accordingly.
The dentist will then commence the bonding of your teeth. In this, the dentist will try and preserve much of your original teeth-structure. You will be given an option of sedation and a local anesthesia will be given to numb the tooth-area. The lumineers will be bonded with your teeth, shaped and polished.

Types Available
There are different types of lumineers available. Veneers are manufactured using composite or dental porcelain. Composite veneers can be reversed as the teeth are not reshaped prior to the actual procedure. In case of lumineers – which are porcelain-made – the same is not possible. The types of veneers available are largely dependent on the different kinds of patented technologies used in their respective making.

Good for All
Lumineers are a quick-fix dental solution to bring back your original smile. The procedure is apt for anyone with disfigured or discolored teeth. Also you need not be worried about any risks involved. Before you undergo the procedure the dentist will explain the entire treatment and procedure to you in detail. Prior to the procedure, you will be required to undergo mandatory registration and training before use.

Competing with Traditional Veneers
Because the procedure of placing lumineers is so convenient and pain-free, the popularity of traditional veneers has seen a downturn. Additionally the fact that traditional veneers take a long time to be placed is another flaw. In case of traditional veneers, first you’re given anesthesia shots, followed by removal of misaligned or chipped teeth. Then temporary caps or crowns are placed while the traditional veneers are developed – a process that could take many months. The temporary crowns are then removed, and the lasting traditional veneers are placed.
