Tooth pain can have quite an effect on a persons well-being and state of mind. The common cause of such a pain is typically an exposed nerve or root. An infection caused by gum disease, or tooth decay are sources for the exposure. In certain instances the pain may originate from areas other than those associated with the teeth.
Toothaches will make anyone feel miserable. The drive to figure out what’s causing you or a loved one pain is completely understandable.
Teeth that are misaligned can press against others, pushing them out of line as well, resulting in aches and pains. Impacted wisdom teeth, also known as wisdom teeth that have failed to break through the gum line, can also be extremely painful as they fester below the gum line and sometimes push against other teeth. These issues should be brought to the attention of your dentist, if they haven’t been addressed yet. For misaligned teeth, an orthodontic solution will likely be proposed, such as braces, and surgery will be needed to fix impacted wisdom teeth.
Truth 1: The aligners need to stay on your teeth to work
One of the most attractive features of Invisalign braces – they are called aligners – is that they are removable. Unlike traditional wire-and-bracket type of braces, you can remove your aligner during meal times for eating, brushing and flossing. That means you won’t have to avoid certain types of food or clean with caution for fear of loosening or damaging the braces. However, for optimum results, you will need to keep your aligners on for 22 hours or more per day. Failing to wear the mouth-guard-like contraption for a minimum of 20 hours a day may be counterproductive to the treatment. Aligner wearers should be mindful of this during extended meal hours.
